Our MMS marketing guide

MMS marketing is a versatile method of communication. Businesses can use it to connect with their clients, informing them of any promotions, competitions or new offerings. They can also share important information with employees and delegates, like meeting times or schedules for conferences, using MMS messaging. MMS means multimedia messaging service. Mobile phones could only send SMS messages when they were first introduced to the market. This was incredible; but with advances in technology, the allotted 160 characters is limiting. Today, most people prefer to watch videos or look at images. While SMS marketing remains a valuable investment, MMS messaging has revolutionised the way businesses can communicate with their clients.

Images, videos, animations, gifs and audio files can be embedded into MMS messages. Depending on the file size, more than one image can be used. Adding 30-second video or audio files is possible because MMS messages have a 500kb data cap. MMS messages have a 1200 character limit, giving businesses more space to communicate their message. This rich content is more engaging and can increase conversion rates for marketing campaigns. MMS marketing companies, like Cellcast, develop specialised software to assist businesses. Cellcast’s dashboard not only helps businesses track their MMS marketing campaigns in real-time, it also simplifies the production process. In just a few clicks, an entire MMS message can be created and sent to an entire mailing list.

Is MMS Marketing effective?

According to Deloitte’s 2018 mobile penetration survey, 89 percent of Australians own at least one smartphone with that number expected to increase. Almost all survey respondents claim to have their phone, or at least one other mobile device, with them at all times. Traditional forms of marketing no longer reach the same volume of consumers and are still expensive. For example, print media has an average “daily reach” of only 13 percent.
Cellcast’s data shows that MMS messages have a 98 percent read rate and are usually opened within 90 seconds of being received. Customers are eight times more likely to redeem a coupon received via an MMS message than any other form of marketing. Businesses who used Cellcast’s MMS marketing services saw a 38 percent conversion rate for their campaigns, which is significantly higher than the average 2 percent of email. Moreover, MMS marketing is cheaper than most forms of traditional methods. Cellcast offers 5000-message bundles at $0.22 per unit, which is the best pricing in Australia. This, coupled with the statistics, shows that MMS marketing should be included in all marketing budgets.

Building an MMS Marketing Mailing List

Generating a mailing list can be tricky because MMS messaging requires permission from customers. They have to opt-in. Using click-to-join widgets or keyword and short code services are two of the best ways to encourage customers to join your MMS marketing database. Click-to-join widgets are usually placed on company websites or social media pages. Customers are incentivised with give-aways or discounts if they sign up. Keywords and short codes require a little more work from potential clients. By texting a short code (e.g. text “Yes” to 2626), they can opt-in to receive your MMS messages.
Cellcast uses these two methods to streamline the opt-in process and help businesses grow their mailing list. Their MMS API (application programming interface) has a “self-cleaning subscriber list” feature that ensures all numbers on your database are active. It will automatically remove dead numbers. You can also segment your mailing list to create targeted MMS marketing campaigns that will get better results. Possibly one of the best features Cellcast’s MMS API has to offer is the detailed opt-out survey. You can learn what your client would like to receive and try resolve the issue before they leave your mailing list. Cellcast helps businesses grow and maintain their mailing lists for maximum return on investment.

How to Implement MMS Marketing

Most service providers, like Cellcast, have an API that simplifies the production of MMS messages. Once you join, you will have access to a dashboard that helps you create the perfect MMS marketing strategy. Once you’ve built your database, you can add your chosen multimedia format (images, videos, animations, etc.), type a message and send it to your mailing list in a matter of minutes. MMS marketing is browser-based, so replies to your messages are received on any internet enabled device. Cellcast’s MMS API lets you track your MMS messages in real-time. You get instant results and can measure the success of your campaigns. Links embedded in your messages are also tracked, so you can measure your read and click-through rate in one place.
MMS marketing is simple to implement with Cellcast. Visit www.cellcast.com.au for more information on their innovative MMS marketing platform.
